Morzine is not just a great place for a summer family holiday with lots of activities for kids and adults. Every year there is a host of competitions and events. Here’s a list of some of the events that are happening over the summer of 2019 in and around Morzine.
Chablais Cycle Sportive- 16 June
Road Bike race with a choice of two distances, 155km and 100km over the Joux Verte, Corbier, Grand Taillet, Jambaz and the famous Joux Plane Col to finish off in Morzine town.
Savoie Cup, Gathering Porches June 21 to 23
200 Porches take part in this classic rally with more than 400 other Porsches joining the fun in Morzine.
Pass’Portes du Soliel June 28 to 30
Pass’Portes is a mountain-bike ride ranging from 1000 to 2250m elevation, in both France and Switzerland, allowing you to discover the amazing Portes du Soleil MTB terrain and its glorious scenery. The 80-km circuit uses 15 lifts. Alternate routes are put on for mountain bikers wanting to cycle up hill. The trek takes one day, and participants can choose whether to ride it on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. There’s also a bike show held in Morzine with more than 200 international brands and free bike tests.
Spartan Race, European Championships July 5 to 7
With 4 different distances and a kid's race on the Sunday, Spartan race is one of the most exciting weekends of the summer. The Morzine edition is one of the toughest one the Spartan calendar. The 6km sprint race includes approximately 20 obstacles on a trail which takes Spartans across and under logs, gaps and other placed climbing obstacles and also irregular terrain with potentially hidden natural challenges, water and slippery surfaces. Intense.
Harley Days July 11 to 14
Harley HOG (Harley Owners Group) festival with a bike show and free concerts. Thousands of Harley owners descend on Morzine to watch/take part in demonstrations and see some cool Harley stunts and in the past has been rounded off with a fashion show and live performances from, Toto, The Blues Brothers and Status Quo.
Kids Kingdom July 22 to 26
Morzine puts on an exceptional week for children, free shows, workshops and loads of activities in the town centre through the week.
Splash Morgin TBC
Europe’s largest water slide! 500m long, speeds up to 55km! Take you googles with you so you can see through all the water spray. There is more than the slide, so while the kids and big kids enjoy the slide, spectators can chill out at the bars and food trucks. There is also zip line.
grimpee d'avoriaz 4 august
The Grimpee d’Avoriaz is one of the oldest cycle races in France. It started when the Tour de France first came through the valley in 1975. A casual bike race for all abilities, stretches over 14.6km with 860m and 6% incline. The record of 33 minutes has stood for 28 years swet by Bernard Hinault! Try and beat that! To take part, make your way down to the Morzine Mairie for a 9am start.
Head to the beach! The tourist office square gets transformed in to a really sandy beach with inflatables, deck chairs, games for all the family and a lookout tower. Along with some live music the best part is it’s free!
Morzine Beach August TBC
The trail des hauts forts running race starting in Morzine 1000m and finishing in Avoriaz 1800m offers beautiful views of the Portes du Soleil while racing around the Hauts-Forts, the highest summit in the Chablais and the Portes du Soleil.
The KMV de Nautaux is a slightly different trail running race, running up one vertical kilometre as fast as possible. What makes the Nantaux KMV especially hard is the length of the trail. It's only 2.2km making it an extremely steep race.
Mozine Montriond Sprint Triathlon 1 September
This is a super fun event organised by Buzz Performance at the end of the summer. Billed as possibly the most beautiful sprint triathlon in the world. It involves swimming in and running around Lac de Montriond and cycling on the completely closed lower part of the Col de la Verte (no major climbs). A great race for beginners and experienced triathletes.
Mont Blanc Rally 6 to 7 September
At the end of the summer for the past 20 years crowds gather at the various viewpoints to see the cars of the French automobile championships scramble around the mountains roads and passes of Morzine and Les Gets before they head for the Cote d’Arbroz.
